The Six Wives Club SAL - The First Wife - Catherine of Aragon

Greetings! If you read my post today over on Wisdom with Needle and Thread, we are starting a SAL in honor of the six wives of Henry VIII. Every other month, a new pattern will be made available on this blog featuring the badge and motto of each of Henry's queens.

First is Catherine of Aragon - her badge is the pomegranate. Catherine took the pomegranate as her badge for several reasons - it was an exotic fruit and represented her Spanish heritage. It also symbolized fertility and abundance. The crown above the fruit is the ultimate power symbol - sovereignty.

Pattern notes:
 - Catherine of Aragon's badge cross stitch pattern is 88W x 117H (stitches)
**the other badges may vary a bit by stitch count due to the design of the badges themselves. Trying to keep within the same parameters caused some badges to be a bit distorted**
 - You have the choice of stitching the badge by itself, with or without the motto and/or with or without the name of each queen.
- If you stitch the mottos and names, additional stitches need to be added when you calculate the size of the material you choose to use.

Again - new patterns will be released every other month - so look for Anne Boleyn's in early March.

Links to the SAL will be available through my blog (Wisdom with Needle and Thread) and Kaye's blog (Kitten Stitching). Simply look for the Tudor Tuesdays badge on the right side bar of our blogs.

I look forward to seeing and hearing your progress. Now let the games - er - stitching begin!!
